Description of Exhibition: 'The cardboard exhibition features a experimental initiative of artists, united by their joint interest in – YES! You guessed it! - CARDBOARD!
But what is cardboard? And what is its history? Cardboard was first commercially produced in England (1817) as simple corrugated sheets. In 1874 cardboard progressed and included sides with a corrupted sheet in the centre. These heavy duty layers of paper is how we define cardboard today.
Cardboard is product and subject of discourse because we think of it as 'craft'. Traditionally, craft was a term that denoted skilled work and was understood as something decorative. In 1915 Dadaist artists began to use cardboard to respond to WW1 and has since been used by artists as a political and empowering artistic tool.'
